Microsoft’s product set for enterprise project portfolio management (PPM) has consistently appeared as a leader in the Gartner Group’s IT Project & Portfolio Management Magic Quadrant. It is deployed to help organisations effectively evaluate and select project ideas, measure the contribution of competing requests, standardise project progression, improve governance and control, effectively manage resources and mine and aggregate data on many dimensions to produce reports and dashboards enabling greater insight for informed decision-making.
Microsoft PPM is built on a number of Microsoft technologies. At the heart of it is Microsoft Project Server, deployed on a SharePoint Server farm. These two products form the application layer of PPM, while the back-end database is Microsoft SQL Server. Reporting and Business Intelligence (BI) are delivered through many analytical tools – such as Excel Services, Power Pivot, Power View, SQL Analysis Services (SSIS) and SQL Reporting Services (SSRS).
Microsoft PPM can be owned and installed on premises, or consumed as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) through Microsoft’s Project Online service which is delivered on Office 365. It can also be hosted on EPM Partners’ own cloud-based EPMonDemand service – a hybrid solution between an on-premises deployment and Project Online.
Project Online is a flexible online solution for project portfolio management (PPM) and everyday work. Based in Australian data centres and delivered through Office 365, Project Online enables organisations to put PPM in place quickly to deliver significant business value – from virtually anywhere and on nearly any device.
Project Online has flexible subscription plans that help you quickly and easily sign up for the service that best fits your business needs. You can get up and running with enterprise-grade reliability and zero up-front infrastructure costs and add teams and projects within minutes using a web-based portal. It’s priced from $36.63 per user/month with annual subscription.
EPMonDemand was the Southern Hemisphere’s first cloud-based Microsoft Project Server service. Based in Australia, in Microsoft Azure data centres, it is a complete hosted Microsoft Project Portfolio Management platform.
Two cloud options are offered on EPMonDemand: shared (multi-tenanted infrastructure) or dedicated (private cloud). With both the shared and private-cloud services, EPM Partners provides all the required Microsoft license components on a $-per-user-per-month basis. Additionally, on the private cloud service, customers can deploy licenses that they’ve already acquired via Microsoft’s Software Mobility Program – as long as they have Software Assurance in place on those licenses. It’s priced from $49 per user per month.
Microsoft Project Server is a flexible on-premises solution for project portfolio management (PPM) and everyday work. Project Server is built on SharePoint Server and can be deployed on existing SharePoint farms.
