Changing the Owner of a Project Doesn’t Save

I recently came across this issue with one of my clients, they were trying to change the owner of a project. The steps to change the owner of a project are usually very simple, but in this case they didn’t work. The usual steps are:

  1. Open the Project
  2. Click on Edit
  3. Go to PDP that has the owner field
  4. Change the owner
  5. Save
  6. Close

In this instance, at the end of this process, the owner field had not changed!

After troubleshooting and trying a number of things, the solution was that the project had to have at least one task in its schedule and also that task had to be in Automatically Calculated mode (not manual).

It must a bug and I am not sure if there is a hot fix or a service pack that fixes it, but there you have it the two things that you need to do:

  1. Have at least one task in your schedule
  2. And the task has to be Auto not Manual mode
