Hiding Ribbon Items for a PDP Page Using a CEWP

If you want to hide ribbon items on a specific PDP page, a quick way to achieve this is to place a Content Editor Web Part (CEWP) on the page and put in some style changes.

The example below shows an example of the style statements to hide some common elements from the Project Tab (Documents, Risks, Issues, Deliverables, Permissions, Resource Plan).

<style type=”text/css”>

<–! #Ribbon\.Tabs\.PDP\.Home\.GoTo\.GoToProjectPermissions-Medium{display:none;} –>

<–! #Ribbon\.Tabs\.PDP\.Home\.GoTo\.GoToResPlan-Medium{display:none;} –>

My preference to save the script into a text file and then link to the file from the Content Editor web part.  That way I can create a central scripts Document Library in the PWA site where any script files used in the site are centrally managed.

So how do we find the ribbon items names when using style statements?

I used the steps below to find the item names:

  • In Internet Explorer browse to the PDP page you want to hide the ribbon item from
  • Select Tools > Developer Tools from the Internet Explorer top menu.  (If the menu is not displaying press the Alt key as it may be hidden)
  • I did a search for GoTo to find the section below.  You can then pull out the appropriate item names as circled below.

To hide ribbon items across the whole PWA site I recommend the following article which involves creating a SharePoint solution:
