In Microsoft Project you can create as many calendars as you like and assign these calendars to the Project or individual resources. However in the scenario where you have a task which may for some reason need to be scheduled out of normal business working hours one option is to create what is known as a “Task Calendar”.
For example;
I have a task in a Release Project called “Apply Service Packs”. This task needs to occur on a weekend day.
- Create a calendar which includes working time for that particular day (or use the default 24 hour calendar)
- Edit the task information
- Click on the “advanced “ tab
- Choose the calendar from the drop down list (in this example I am using the 24 hours calendar)
- Select the option “scheduling ignores resource calendars”
- Click OK
- If you now go to the task usage view you can see that the task allows you to now assign resources to work on this task on the Saturday and Sunday
